Phoenix Finance & Investments Limited (PFIL), formerly known as Phoenix Leasing Company Limited, is a multi-products financial institution in Bangladesh. Established on April 19, 1995, as a Public Limited Company under the Companies Act 1994, it commenced operations on May 9, 1995, as a Non-Banking Financial Institution under the Financial Institutions Act 1993. PFIL changed its name to reflect its diverse financial activities, which extend beyond lease financing, although lease financing remains a primary focus. The authorized capital of PFIL is Tk. 1,000 million, divided into 10,000,000 ordinary shares of Tk. 100 each. Through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2007, the company raised Tk. 12.50 crore by floating 1,250,000 ordinary shares at Tk. 100 each. The paid-up capital has since increased to 43,70,437 shares, amounting to Tk. 43,70,43,700. The company's shares are listed on the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges since September 25, 2007. Sponsor shareholders include the renowned corporate body Phoenix Insurance Company Ltd., a leading insurance company in Bangladesh, and other individuals with extensive experience in commerce and industries. PFIL's main objective is to allocate financial resources to capital investment, focusing on funding capital machinery/equipment, especially BMRE (Balancing, Modernization, Rehabilitation, and Expansion) of existing industrial enterprises. This aims to stimulate the industrial development of the country. PFIL also provides financial assistance through leasing and various multi-dimensional products and services to entrepreneurs at different levels for a wider range of asset acquisition. The company has diversified its products and services into areas such as housing and real estate, bridge financing, short-term and mid-term loans, and startup working capital to cater to the diverse needs of the economy. PFIL established an SME Branch in Dhaka in 2007 to promote Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for poverty alleviation through employment creation and income generation. Additionally, PFIL acquired a 25% ownership stake in a brokerage company dealing with the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges to further diversify its investment activities.
